Calls Voter Registration the First Step Towards a Better Nigeria
Sir (Dr) Chuks Okonji, has called on the people of the Federal constituency to take advantage of the ongoing voter’s registration exercise by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the PVC as the most powerful tool for shaping the future of the constituency and Nigeria.
Speaking during an interaction with members of the constituency, Sir Felix Okonji, emphasized that the PVC remains the most important constitutional instrument through which citizens can peacefully and democratically demand accountability and elect leaders capable of addressing the nation’s numerous challenges.
According to him, “The future of our country is in our hands. Every eligible citizen must understand that the journey to the new Nigeria we all desire begins with obtaining a Permanent Voter Card. Without a PVC, your voice cannot be heard at the ballot box.”
He expressed deep concern over the worsening state of insecurity across the country, noting that the persistent killings, kidnappings, abductions of schoolchildren, and violent attacks on innocent citizens have become major sources of concern for every patriotic and responsible Nigerian.
“The level of insecurity in our nation today is alarming. We hear daily reports of kidnappings, killings, and attacks on communities. Our children are no longer safe in some parts of the country, while many families now live in fear. This is not the Nigeria we desire,” he said.
Omelora also lamented the prevailing economic hardship facing Nigerians, citing rising inflation, unemployment, and widespread hunger as major challenges affecting millions of households across the country.
“The hardship in the land is evident. Many families can barely afford basic necessities. Hunger is increasing, businesses are struggling to survive, and the cost of living continues to rise. These realities demand collective action from citizens through active participation in the democratic process,” he stated.
He urged eligible voters, particularly youths and first-time voters, not to remain indifferent but to participate actively in the electoral process by registering and obtaining their PVCs.
“The power to change our circumstances lies in our hands. We must use our votes to elect leaders who will prioritize security, create economic opportunities, improve infrastructure, and make life better for all Nigerians. Every PVC represents hope, responsibility, and an opportunity to build a safer and more prosperous nation.”
He concluded by reminding citizens that democracy thrives when people actively participate in choosing their leaders, stressing that the dream of a better Nigeria can only become a reality when eligible citizens exercise their civic responsibility.
“As we look forward to a brighter future, let us all register, obtain our PVCs, and prepare to vote for leaders who will secure our nation, revive the economy, and improve the quality of life for all Nigerians. Together, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.
